Indian Culture & Honor Killing

Published by Dr. Anil K Agarwal under General

Honor killing has not now restricted to North India; the evil has now gone to Andhra Pradesh of South India. Swapna, a high cast girl was married to Sonkari- a low cast boy.  Sonkari met Swapna, fell in her love and proposed marrying her.  Soon they tied up in marriage.  Fearing that their marriage would not be accepted by their parents, they began to live in the nearby city. After three months of their marriage, they came back to their village and met Swapna’s parents to convince them to accept their marriage. But they couldn’t succeed in their mission.  On the same day in the evening, her parents along with some other persons had attacked their house. The newly wed couple had been stoned to death. Their dead body was found lying at the door of their house.  The police have registered a complaint against Swapna’s mother and father along with six more persons. The DGP of the area said culprits would soon be booked under the charge of brutal murder.

One more interesting point has been revealed in this case that the bridegroom had already married and his first wife had no objection about his second marriage.

If the case is analyzed sincerely many points will come out of it. It is revealed that the real picture of Indian culture is different. It is said that it is the best culture in the whole world though it may be one of the worst cultures. I want to request you in the beginning that you need not be excited reading this post. These may just be the emotional sentiments of the author. The following are the points that can be raised.

(1)                      The bridegroom was already married – If any body does second marriage when his first wife is alive, it is considered crime according to Hindu marriage act.

(2)                      Why did Swapna, the second wife of the bridegroom agree to get married to such a man?

(3)                     Why did Swapna’s parents and other relatives take law in their hands?

(4)                     How could a man kill another one so brutally?

(5)                     Why did the first wife not oppose the second marriage of her husband?

The first point shows that we don’t respect our Indian laws. We still have the same mentality that we had centuries ago. It means we are still living in the old male dominating society when women had no social rights though we talk high. We falsely say that we are the sons of ‘Sita and Laxmi Bai’.

The second point shows that women are really weak they have no courage to oppose any wrong thing. They are also living in old male dominating society. So they need special privilege to come up.

The third point indicates that we are not mentally balanced, therefore our emotions over power our mind and we lose our analyzing power.

The fourth point declares that we are still living in Stone Age. This is the reason that we can kill a man with stones.

In a nut shell it can be expressed that the above incident is a shameful act and on behalf of modern era people I condemn this brutality.

Story of an Air-Conditioner

Published by Dr. Anil K Agarwal under General

My clinic is situated in the basement and I have been working there for twenty six years. When I started my practice there I was quite young and could tolerate the heat of the summer easily. Moreover the basement had cross ventilation, as there was an entry gate at one side and ventilators on the opposite side. These ventilators are inside the two shops. A tent house and tailoring work were running in these two shops respectively. So it had been cool from inside even in the month of May and June. But the tailoring shop had closed down for ten years and at that place, a beauty parlor is being run. The beauty parlor’s owner keeps her glass gate always closed. The other shop, tent house has also been shifted to another shop, on the ground floor, so that it has also closed down permanently. In this way the ventilation of the basement has been impaired. That is why the temperature of the basement remains high and I feel hot there. To get rid of the heat of the basement I got an AC (air conditioner) installed in my clinic. It provides me a lot of relief. It is a split AC so that the unit of it is kept out of the building. AC needs service every year. So I also get my AC serviced every year but never felt satisfaction with the work of the service engineer. This time I tried to find out a good service boy of AC. A friend of mine whose shop is also in my community center suggested me a guy who is good in his job as an AC service man. My friend is satisfied with his work for many years, so I also called him up. Yesterday, he came to my clinic in the morning even before me. When I reached the clinic he had cleaned the indoor unit of the AC.  After that he checked the unit and found that the blower of the AC was not in function. So he reopened the unit and searched out the fault. The wire was broken so that it was not functioning. He reconnected the wire and after that blower began to work properly. The compressor of the AC is kept out side the building at about fifteen feet height, so to reach there a ladder was needed but he couldn’t procure it. He promised me that he would come the next day. He fulfilled his promise as came there today after getting my friend’s telephone. He cleaned the outer unit to my satisfaction. Today the AC did its job satisfactorily. In the evening, I asked my assistant to start the AC but it didn’t work. Then I told my friend to telephone the mechanic. The mechanic advised him to restart the AC. As he switched it on, it started functioning properly. I couldn’t understand how it started working again properly. Now only time will tell whether it functions properly or not.

Four Jokes

Published by Dr. Anil K Agarwal under jokes

A boy of a public school was studying in the tenth class. One day he wrote a love letter in Hindi to a girl who was also studying in the same class. The girl complained of the boy to the class teacher regarding the love letter. The matter went to the principal and he called the boy. The principal fined him Rs.100 and said to him, “You are a student of the public school and wrote the letter in Hindi.”

A nurse came out of the delivery –room and said to a man standing there, “Congratulations! Your wife has delivered a girl.” He enquired the nurse about the condition of his wife and the daughter. The nurse said both are fine but the girl is weak – just three and a half kilo in weight. He said, “It was to happen. We were married just five months ago.”

A heroine fell in love with a hero. She always insisted him on to go for a marriage. The hero was not serious on the issue so he always diverted the matter cleverly when ever it came before him. One day, under depression she jumped in to the river from the bridge. But all of a sudden the hero appeared there and saved her in a filmy style. She said to him sobbingly, “I want to die. So let me.” The hero said, “How can you decide to die yourself. We have sworn-in to live and die together.” The heroine replied that then they should jump in to the river together.

A lady got married to the younger brother of her husband who died one year ago. After two months of her second marriage, her old friend came to her house and saw a photo hanging on the wall along with a garland on the photo-frame. Seeing the photo the visitor enquired about the photo. The lady said he was an elder brother of my husband who died a year ago.

Peter and Three Dead

Published by Dr. Anil K Agarwal under stories

Three men were standing in a queue to get in to the heaven. Apparently it was a busy day, so Peter said, “The heaven seems to be full today, and I have been asked to admit only one who got horrible death. You tell me your story to get entry in to the heaven.” The man, standing on the first number said, “I suspected that my wife was cheating on me, and I thought to catch her red handed. Today I have been at home earlier and searched out my whole apartment that is on the 25th story, but couldn’t find a guy. Then I went out the balcony and saw a man hanging on the railing. Seeing him, I burst out and started beating and kicking on his hands but he didn’t leave the hand. I went inside the flat and immediately come back with a hammer. I began to hammer his hand until he fell down. I leaned over the railing and saw him lying on the bushes even though he was alive. So I went again inside and grabbed the fridge. Arriving at the balcony, I threw the fridge over him. He died as the fridge hit him. But due to the outburst of anger I got a heart attack and died.” Peter told him that he could go in to the heaven as he died horribly.

Then Peter called the second guy and explained the problem before him and told him to narrate his story. The second guy said, “I lived in the 26th story flat and was doing yoga in the balcony of my flat. All of a sudden I slipped and fell out of the balcony, but I managed to catch the railing of the 25th floor and was hanging there. Soon I saw a man entering in to the balcony and thought that now I could be saved. But the guy was in anger and started beating on my hands. I managed to hold the railing until he went inside the apartment. But soon he appeared in the balcony with a hammer in his hand and started hammering on my hand. My hands left the railing and I fell down on the bushes but I was still alive. Soon a fridge fell on me from the sky and I died.” Hearing his story Peter also allowed him to go into the heaven.

The third, naked guy came before Peter. Peter narrated him the same situation and asked him to tell his story. “Picture this”, he said, “I am hiding in the fridge naked.”

An Old Lady and A Horse Rider

Published by Dr. Anil K Agarwal under stories

It is a story of those days when means of transport were different from the ones available nowadays. Those people used to go anywhere either on foot or on horses and such like animals as no other means of transportation was used at that time.

Once an old lady was going through a jungle and the weather was hot. The sun was also shining like a ball of hot fire as a sequel of which the jungle was also very hot. Hot air was also on its job. As such all the animals were facing the heat wave along with mankind. Now it can be imagined about the condition of that old woman who was crossing the jungle on foot in the afternoon in such weather. During the course of her walk, she saw a man riding on a horse crossing the jungle. Seeing him in the forest, she invited him to come near her in a loud voice with gesture. Coming near to her, he said, “Why are you calling me?” The lady told him that as she was old and the weather was hot and she being tired, she would feel obliged if he kept her luggage on his horse which she would take back after crossing the jungle. Even on hearing her humble request he refused her offer and went away to his route.

After his refusal, the old lady felt badly but soon a thought struck to her mind; ‘I didn’t know him even then I offered him the bag containing valuables too. God has helped me to save my valuables and that was the reason why he had not accepted my request.’ On the other side, the horse rider also got an idea; ‘if I had accepted her offer and ran away with her belongings, the old lady would never have recovered it from me. Let me take a chance again.’ He returned and said to her, “I felt guilty as I refused to help you. Now I am ready to provide my services to you. So you may kindly give me your bag that I will return you after crossing the jungle.” But the old lady refused to accept his offer and said, “O my son! The one who taught you something also warned me. I still thank you for your offer but I will do my work myself as it should have been done.”

Power of Attorney is now Power less

Published by Dr. Anil K Agarwal under news

Delhi Govt has now banned sale and purchase of plots in unauthorized colonies that are about 1500 in number. Although sale deed or registration of such plots was also not exercised even before this order, now the sale- purchase of these plots can’t be done through general power of attorney after the ban. This is because  some people are selling plots that are being made for residential and/or commercial purposes on agriculture land and are thus being benefitted. Responsibility of Patwaris and SDMs are fixed to control such like illegal constructions on agriculture land lying vacant inside these unauthorized colonies. They have been asked to take action within three days if such incidence comes in their notice.

There are 1639 unauthorized colonies which exist at this time in Delhi that are being considered to be regularized. Out of them about one thousand colonies have even received provisional certificates. There are still many colonies in this lot which have other obstacles as well yet to be regularized. There are some colonies where sufficient number of constructed houses are not  as per the Govt directions and even agriculture land is also lying there. Such agriculture land is being converted into plots to construct houses. Property dealers have inflated the price into double. Ashok Walia, minister of urban development says, “Builders and property mafias are trying to get benefit through the procedure  of regularization of these colonies. This is the reason why the ban is made. It is now said that the power of attorney on the sale- pucrhase of houses of these colonies will not be made. The deputy commissioners of Delhi Govt have issued an order to their revenue staff stating that they will stop all such illegal construction immediately.  It is also said in the order that every Patwari will visit his area fortnightly and if they find any illegal construction is being done in his area they will inform their concerned SDMs. It is also mentioned in the order that if any field staff is found careless in his work, action will be taken against him.

‘A Saint and The Rich’

Published by Dr. Anil K Agarwal under news, stories

Once upon a time a saint lived in Haridwar, a sacred place for Hindus now in Uttrakhand. He was quite popular among his disciples and in India too. It was believed that he had some supernatural powers. He lived with simplicity so that people paid him high level respect. What ever the saint suggested to any person he followed his words. One day a rich man, named Jaganath came to his hermit. He sat in a corner of the visitor’s room to see the saint. After a little while the saint entered in to the room and sat on his ‘Assan’. The rich bowed his head before him. The saint asked him the purpose to visit there. Jaganath said, politely, “I came here from a long distance to get your ‘Darshan’. I feel pleasure to see you. I have a desire to give you some money, one thousand gold coins. I will be grateful to you if you accept my offer.’ On hearing his request, the saint said, “My dear boy! I respect your emotions but I can’t accept it as it is not required by me.” But Jaganath was adamant to his desire and continued insisting on his offer to him. At last the saint said, “If you really want to give me that money you have to do my one work in place of it.”  The rich agreed to his proposal and asked his wish. The saint said, “OK, I accept your offer. Now this is your turn to do my work. I order you to throw these coins in to the Ganga.”  Hearing his words Jaganath got stunned. But he had to obey the saint’s order as he insinuated the saint.

Jaganath went to the bank of Ganga River on his heavy feet. He sat beside the bank of river and started throwing coins into the water one by one. After tossing every coin he counted it. Seeing his act a passer-by asked him what he was doing sitting there, it seemed to be rather funny. The rich said he was just obeying the order of someone. These coins belonged to the saint even though I had given him the money. The passer-by said, “If these are not yours now, then why you are throwing them one by one. It shows that you still are attached to them.” Hearing his thoughts, he felt embarrassed and got realization.

Maharana Pratap- the great warrior

Published by Dr. Anil K Agarwal under stories

Maharana Pratap was wandering in the hills along with his small family when he faced the Moughuls. In the last, the day came when there was no food available to eat. Grinding the remaining cereals,    his wife prepared some ‘Roti’ which were snatched by a wild animal and it ran away after that. His little daughter started crying from hunger.

Seeing the crying of his children from starvation, his courage began to lose his strength. Soon an idea entered in to his mind; why he had not compromised with his foe and passed rest of his life comfortably. The planning was clearly seen on his face though he was buried in deep thoughts. The queen took no time to understand the worries of her husband. She said audaciously, “Lord, to do ones duty is always considered the high quality aim of life. It shouldn’t be wasted either at the cost of families’ starvation or at the cost of ones life. The true people aren’t afraid of dying. They always concentrate on their duty so why are you thinking

‘Shame Party’

Published by Dr. Anil K Agarwal under General

There is a lot of craze for ‘shame party’ seen in America and Europe nowadays. In these parties, people disclose their old secrets before strangers and share their old shameful acts which were not revealed in front of any one till today. Such parties are not yet started in India. The party people say that such games are played when every body opens his secret in these parties. The idea of such gathering really looks exciting but it is said that there is no such atmosphere present in our country where secrets can be disclosed before strangers. Here people make the trifle an issue.

The celebrity, Amir Zakir, says that he has arranged himself some such parties, where people tell their secrets. Perhaps these festivities have some rules that only those who are ready to share their secrets and will forget the listened secrets after the party can attend the event. Such bash seems to be excited but the trust is the most important part of the game; other wise no time is required to convert a tiny talks into an issue. The model, Dona Catherine also feels that the idea of ‘shame party’ is really full of fun and would like to pass such time in her friends circle. But I think the list of participants should be made cautiously. Although a fashion designer, Rahul Jain is not convinced with this new idea of such parties. He says that our culture is different from the tradition of America and Europe even though the ‘shame party’ will be popular here one day as we are good in copying. Therefore days are not far in India when these merrymakings will be part of our life. Fashion designer, Jatin Kochhar accepts that such act even now is the part of our life; some times we make friends in our bus or train travelling and open our secrets. Currently such instances happen in semi urban cities. He explains that there is no family life in western countries therefore they have converted the idea into the form of the party even though he himself is excited with the idea. I read it in NBT on front page, given by Poonam Pandey. I liked it so that it is posted here with courtesy

Two mangoes and one servant

Published by Dr. Anil K Agarwal under stories

Once Ramesh was waiting for his guest at home when he called his servant and gave him two ripe mangoes. He instructed his servant, Suboo that he should cut these mangoes artistically and serve them to the guest when he had arrived there. Suboo thus cut the mangoes decently and suitably garnished them in the plate. Seeing the decorated and ripe mangoes, his greediness overpowered and overwhelmed his conscious. He took a piece of the cut mangoes and put it into his mouth. That piece of mango was very delicious. So he couldn’t control his urge and took one more piece of the fruit and gulped it. After that he continued eating the pieces of the mangoes one by one and finished the plate. Then all of a sudden, his eyes went on to the road. Seeing the expected guest coming towards the house, he got panicky. An idea suddenly crawled in to his mind so he took a blunt knife and went to show it to his master. Suboo told him that the mangoes were not being cut with this rusted knife.

Ramesh said, “Give me the knife and let me make it sharp.”  He began to sharpen it. After this Suboo went running to the road so that he could stop the guest to enter into the house. He said to the guest, “Beware! beware of my lord and don’t visit his house. My boss has been mad and made a planning to cut your both ears.”  The guest said trembling, “Why did Ramesh make this plan?” Suboo replied that he had no idea of it but he could see him sharpening the knife in the garden. Seeing him doing this horrible act, the guest turned about and took to his heels. Suboo immediately went to his boss and said, “Sir, your guest has snatched from me both the mangoes and has been going out.” “What are you saying? The greedy guy has taken out both the mangoes from you!”, Ramesh asked Suboo. “Yes”, Suboo said. Hearing his answer, Ramesh ran towards his guest and said, “My dear, please give me one at least.”

The guest thought that his host wanted from him an ear as his host was coming towards him. The caller ran away rapidly.
