Same ‘Gotra’ — Marriage — Ritual and ??

Published by Dr. Anil K Agarwal under General

Recently, people of Haryana, UP, Rajasthan and Delhi, mostly hail from villages organized a general meeting that is called ‘Sarvakhap Panchayat’. I don’t understand the meaning of ‘Sarvakhap’ but it seems either they belong to one particular community or people having ruler back ground are called ‘Sarvakhap’.  They organized the meeting to protest the court decision in Manoj and Babli case. In this case, the two belong to the same ‘Gotra’. In their community, if a bride and bridegroom belong to same cast or same village, they would not get married. If it happens, their society will not recognize such marriage rather they will be punished. In the above case, the ‘panchayat’ ordered to kill both, the bride and the bridegroom; the order was implemented, and both were killed. The case was tried in the Karnal court. The court found five persons guilty in this case, and it sentenced these five accused to death on 30thMarch.

The prominent leaders who led this meeting seem to belong to one particular community. There were about a hundred speakers who had delivered their lectures. Mahender Singh Tikket, president of All India Kisan Union said that it is wrong to label the decision of ‘Panchayat’as a ‘Tuglaki Farman’. Jagdish Singh, president of Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, said, ‘Laws are made for society, society is not made for laws.’ Most of the speakers said more or less the same thing. They said, ‘We have our own culture and rituals, and the Govt. has no right to interfere in it. The Western culture is being imposed on us. We will not tolerate it, if it happens so.’ They even condemned the court decision, but refused the allegation that they had ordered to kill Manoj and Babli. They demanded the Indian Govt. to make necessary changes in the Hindu marriage act. So that marriage in the same ‘Gotra’ and in the same village will be considered illegal. They will write the letter to the Central Govt. in this regard.

If any society tries to follow its old culture and rituals, it should be appreciated, but this thought may be incorrect in the present time. If any old ritual is not compatible with the new law, we should not stick to it. We should think over it repeatedly with open mind, although it is very difficult to accept the change. Human nature is such that it doesn’t easily digest the change. There is no other method to get correct answer for any problem except regular discussions with open heart and mind.

Dr.Hahnemann Birthday Celebration

Published by Dr. Anil K Agarwal under General

On tenth April 2010, we, I along with my some friends celebrated Dr.Hahnemann’s birthday, the founder of Homeopathy at my residence in the morning as it was decided three days ago. Dr.Nagar who is elder among us garlanded the photo of Hahnemann, and kindled the lamp before him. We bowed our heads down in his honor. , Dr.Rajesh came there with a big photo-framed picture of Hahnemann that was used for the ceremony, although I had the small bust of Hahnemann. Dr. Bhargav brought us some snacks and sweets, as a day earlier, he was chosen for the task. Dr.Naveen also participated actively. We enjoyed the snacks, sweets and tea after that. Before the party, everybody participated in the discussion that was on the life history of Hahnemann. In the last, Dr.R.C.Gupta recited a poem which he wrote down himself in the morning on the same day for the occasion. The lines of the poem are these:

Honey, that Hahnemann gave us, is the best.

Have full confidence in it and leave the rest.

We have to treat the patient and not the disease.

Follow it thoroughly and forget the worry, please.

Study the case well, and then select the remedy,

Win the faith of the patient, the cure is ready.

One medicine and a single dose will do.

Maoist v/s Indian Government

Published by Dr. Anil K Agarwal under General

On Tuesday, 6th April 2010, Maoist killed Seventy Six personnel of paramilitary forces in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district jungle. It is the biggest ever attack of Red terrorists on Indian forces. Red forces have shown that they could go to any height of brutality. For the eradication of the naxalites, the Govt. has started its operation Green Hunt. This attack has raised the question mark on the credibility of the operation. Through this attack, they have directly challenged the Govt. The Govt. said, ‘the CBI had informed the forces that the naxalites were present in the jungle.’ So the paramilitary forces reached there in search of them, but the forces got no success in the whole night. In the morning, the naxalites started firing on the forces. To save themselves from firing, the soldiers began to run towards the jungle. But the naxalites had undermined the pressure bombs there and these bombs were the cause of their killing. About one thousand naxalites participated in the attack.

The Home Minister, P.Chidambaram informed the Prime Minister about the attack. The Home secretary, G.K.Pillai told that there was some lacking somewhere in the operation. Chhattisgarh chief minister, Raman Singh said, ‘there is a need of good coordination.’ The former defense adviser to the Govt. of Chhattisgarh, KPS Gill said, ‘the strategy against the naxalites is theoretical and is totally flop. Somebody had imposed this bookish planning on the paramilitary forces and they just obeyed the orders.’ The former DGP of CRPF, Parkash Singh felt that it happened due to the lack of correct information and the police couldn’t be escaped from its responsibility. The experts have their own different opinions.

When something wrong happens, every body starts blaming others. India is a big country and it should be able to face and control all types of adversities. It has good and brave forces, best type of arms and ammunitions, high quality information net work, well trained and experienced officers as well as soldiers and also a democratic set up, which makes her a strong nation. So what else is lacking, only the strong determination is required to control such situations.

Cobalt-60 Radiation and Maya Puri

Published by Dr. Anil K Agarwal under General

Maya Puri, a scrap market is situated in western part of Delhi which is the capital of India. Maya Puri has now become popular in India and abroad too as the radiation leaked from scrap and caused some people seriously ill. Today, I got a telephone call of my friend. He said, ‘I was discussing with you, long back, about radioactive scrap. How radioactive scrap comes to India and is reused for manufacturing cooking utensils. When these utensils are used they will definitely harm the body. These radioactive utensils may cause some cancer like dreaded diseases.’ I couldn’t recall the discussion. But it is certain that radioactive substance cause ill effects on human beings and these bad effects transfer into their offspring. If these scrap along with radioactive substance, deliberately or unknowingly, come to Indian scrap market, one day, they will cause some serious accident in India. The question arises why do other countries sell their scrap to India, why does India buy it? This is an eternal truth in marketing that the seller is always more intelligent than the buyer. The formula also applies here, so Indian Govt. should be careful if he wants to buy the scrap from abroad and make some guidelines for the scrap dealers.

The accident of Maya Puri radiation is a big dent on the prestige of India. Six persons got affected from Cobalt -60 radiation in Maya Puri area. Five are admitted in All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi and one, Deepak, is admitted at Apollo Hospital in Delhi. He is seriously ill and is kept in critical care unit of the hospital. Dr. D.K.Sharma, in charge of AIIMS said, ‘These patients are being treated under the guidance of Dr. A.B.Dey of medicine department. All the tests of these patients have been done and their reports have been received. Their bone-marrow is affected as we know Cobalt-60 radiation affects the bone-marrow first.’

The traders of Maya Puri market have kept the market closed under protest. They demanded that the affected persons should be treated by a good doctor and expenses of the hospital should be borne by the Govt. In this regard, they also wanted to meet the Chief Minister of Delhi. A question arises, why the traders are protesting on this issue. Are they innocent or want to become politicians? Why these traders cause so much hue and cry, when these patients are already getting treatment in one of the best hospitals of the state. The Govt. should take some strict action against those who are illegally involved in this trade.

The Maoist ??

Published by Dr. Anil K Agarwal under General

Maoists had attacked Indian paramilitary forces in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district and killed Seventy Six soldiers. In my last post, it was explained what our some dignitaries said about the killing and how they condemned the forces and the Govt. Although these dignitaries either belong to the force or to the Govt. themselves, then what they really want to say to the public. They can’t escape from their responsibility. Anyhow this attack has forced the Govt., central as well as state, to reconsider their planning and strategy to fight and handle the challenged situation. The Red forces have been killing and targeting the forces for a long time. Majority soldiers are killed in Gorilla war; in this war the forces don’t get time to save themselves. This is quite clear that a full- proof, practical, highly technical and emotional strategy should be made to fight such situation. Red force would not come on negotiation table if they feel that they are stronger than the Govt. and public support is with them. Maoists have become a big threat for the democratic set-up of India. So the Govt. must fight against them with different strategies at different level as mentioned above. Generally the forces are defeated; it shows that they are directly or indirectly under the surveillance of Maoists. But the forces are not well acquainted with the strategy of Red terrorists.

Maoists have won the trust of the poor and downtrodden tribes; they are working among them. They have become the part of their life. The Govt. has to segregate the Maoists from these tribal people. These tribes should get all the privileges which they deserve being Indian citizens. The forces must have friendly behavior with them. The forces should help them and participate in their day to day activities as if they are also the part of these tribes. There are two works that the forces have to do. First, they have to win the heart of local public and second to control the illegal activities of the Maoists. There should be coordination between local police and paramilitary forces. All the states tackle the situation at their own. These states must sit together and make a full-proof strategy. It is evident that about one third districts of the country are under the terror of Maoists; the time has come to eradicate this problem from the roots.

Birthday — 10th April — Dr. Hahnemann

Published by Dr. Anil K Agarwal under General

Tenth April is an auspicious day for those who have used Homeopathy as a system of medicine or are related with it. The founder of Homeopathy, Dr Hahnemann was born on this day. Dr Hahnemann’s life tenure in this world started in 1755 and ended in 1844, as per my remembrance. Millions of patients have used Homeopathy and got their diseases cured. It is also possible that many of them may not know the name of this divine soul. Because the patients just go to a Homeopathic physician and tell their complaints. The physician examines them, diagnoses their disease and prescribes them some medicines. When they get relieved they just express their thanks to the doctor concerned and go home. They don’t have time to think, ’What is Homeopathy and who invented it?’

Therefore I want to write down some lines about Dr. Hahnemann. He was born in Germany and his father was a porcelain painter. He was very intelligent since his childhood. He did his post-graduation in medical science and started his practice there. But he was not satisfied with the existing method of treatment, so he left his medical practice. He started translating the medical books. One fine day, when he was translating the Cullen’s materia- medica, he found one strange statement in the footnote of one of the chapters. The statement was this: A substance which has a power to cure some ailment has a power to produce the same symptoms of that ailment. He experimented on the basis of that statement and got the statement correct. Encouraging results persuaded him to do more experiments on different medicinal substance. Every time, he got the same results. After getting the result, he established the law that likes be cured by likes. Later on he wrote down the Homeopathic material – medica, Homeopathic Philosophy and laid down the Homeopathic principles.

Slowly and gradually Homeopathy got popularity and many learned allopathic physicians had started using Homeopathy. They stopped their allopathic practice completely and started working under the guidance of Homeopathic umbrella. Some Allopathic physicians and a few people have been creating   hurdles in the progress of this system of medicine since its origin. Even then it is getting popularity day by day. Presently, the Homeopathic treatment is available in most of the countries. There are more than one lakh Homeopathic physicians in India. Many people are so much impressed with Homeopathy that they use it as a first line of treatment. On behalf of me and my friends I salute Dr. Hahnemann and pay my regard to the divine soul.

Love — Marriage — and Cheating!!!

Published by Dr. Anil K Agarwal under General

Sania Mirza, a celebrity now a day and a tennis player, is going to marry Shoaib Malik a known Pakistan’s cricket player. As per his statement, reported in NBT their marriage will be solemnized on April15th, 2010. And the reception is to be held at the Taj Krishna in Hyderabad. He is presently staying in Sania’s house.

There is a girl named Aisha Siddiqi claimed that she had already been married with Shoaib. He also accepted her claim but in a different manner. He says that he got married with Aisha but the marriage is not valid. He signed the ‘Nikhanama’; he was going to be married with the same girl whose photo was sent to him. According to the chief Kazi of Hyderabad, a marriage is not considered valid if it is not solemnized as per the advice of Islam. Shoaib says that Aisha got herself introduced to me as Aisha’s elder sister. All of a sudden she made me get married with Aisha. One day in 2005, my brother-in-law said, ‘A teacher who is at my son’s school in Saudi says that she has been married with Shoaib Malik.’ I found the teacher who is making me fool is the elder sister of Aisha. I signed the ‘Nikhanama’ on   my friend’s telephone and had not told my parents.

In the mean while, M. A. Siddiqi, father of Aisha lodged a complaint with police against Shoaib . The police said, ‘A case of dowry, torture and cheating has been registered against Shoaib, under the section of 506, 420 and 498A. A family friend of Siddiqi family says, ‘They stayed, after marriage in 2002, in hotel the Taj Residency where Azheruddin and Sangita also stayed at that time. Many other things have come up in electronic and print media.

The matter belongs to the celebrities so that people have curiosity in this case. Other wise, there are so many cases which come in news paper daily but people read them just for the sake of reading. I think the case should be handed over to the CBI. So that the real picture comes up and justice will be made soon.

Although, some questions may be raised in the story whether Aisha is blackmailing Shoaib or Shoaib is deceiving Aisha. Why Sania, a blue eyed girl of India is interested to get married with Shoaib, a controversial celebrity of Pakistan. Why a celebrity lady wants to get married with a married man. Has a married man more charming personality than a bachelor?

Your comments are welcome.

Gambling! Is it a hobby or something else ?

Published by Dr. Anil K Agarwal under General

Today, in the evening, Vaibhav, Sambhav and I were going in the car. I was driving the car while Sambhav was sitting on the front seat and Vaibhav was on the back seat. On the way, we were remembering our old memories. Vaibhav asked me whether I had gone to casino when I went to Nepal. I told him that I had been to casino when I went there. I also played there games on machines and also on the table of roulette. I purchased some coins for a few hundred rupees and enjoyed there. Moreover I was not a looser; even I earned a little more money than I spent there. I told what I saw there. I narrated him a story of a man who was playing there on roulette. He was drunk and was gambling there in lakhs. In the beginning, he was in profit and won about ten lakhs. But in the last he staked all his money along with the winning amount; he lost that game and lost his whole money. After that he left the table and went staggering downstairs. I said, ‘People like me go there for the sake of fun but the people who really gamble there, like that guy are the real customers of a casino.’

I said that it is not a good game. In my opinion, if any body spends such huge amount in some social work, he will get more pleasure. Vaibhav was not agreeing with my thoughts. He said that it is a matter of hobby and one can waste any amount of money for the sake of hobby. I was not agreeing with his argument in the meanwhile we reached Ashok Vihar. So, I dropped there as my clinic is in Ashok Vihar. I was not very much convinced with Vaibhav’s argument. I searched out the meaning of hobby on the net. I found the meaning of hobby is this— ‘A hobby is an activity or interest that is undertaken for the pleasure or relaxation, often in one’s spare time.’ The meaning of gambling which I found on Wikipedia is this— ‘Gambling is the wagering of money or something of material value on an event with an uncertain outcome with the primary intent of winning additional money and/or material goods. Typically, the outcome of the wager is evident within the short period.’ In a nut shell I could say that gambling can be a profession for some people. I know more than a hundred types of activities that come under the category of hobby. But I have not found gambling in the list of hobby. It is also clear that an activity may be a hobby for a person and the same activity may be a profession for the other. For example—Cooking may be a hobby for an engineer but it is a profession for chef. Gardening, stamp-collecting, music, singing, drawing, mountaineering, rafting, reading books, and teaching etc. are the common hobbies found in people. When we do some work for money it is considered as a profession. It is also true that a person sometimes starts some work as a hobby but on a latter stage he converts it into a profession; there is a vice-versa also.

Therefore, there is a clear difference between hobby and profession. In my opinion, gambling is a profession, and it can’t be kept in the list of hobby. Your comments are also welcome.

Terrorism– what does it mean?

Published by Dr. Anil K Agarwal under General

Terrorism is a world wide phenomenon. Majority countries are facing this problem. It is generally the front page story of the news papers. There are some known terrorist organizations in the world. Some of them work on the regional level and some on a country level. Some big organizations do their unlawful activities internationally. They generally explode bombs in crowded places or in important buildings. They sometimes use bullets to kill the innocent people. Their modus operandi is more or less the same. The question arises why these organizations are formed and what are their aims? One more question, bigger than the others, is  who fund them? Every answer, which people think is relevant at someplace. Let us consider some possibilities.

Some times the Govt. or the state police do injustice and torture a person or a particular sect of the society. They try to tolerate these adversities until these become unbearable. Then a group of tortured people is formed and they revolt against them. Their goal is nothing but to take revenge from the accused. They want to get justice at their own. They are not bothered whether they achieve their target or not. Some times these groups are misused by local leaders, local business tycoons and the shrewd people for their own purposes. In the same manner the big and the bigger organizations are formed; these are also used and misused. It is known that some terrorist groups are trained and funded by the Govt. also. The Govt. uses them to do destructive activities in its neighboring countries. Some terrorist groups are formed on the religious basis. What ever the reason is found after these groups, only the innocent people become the victims.

Mumbai blast, 9/11 blast in New York and Metro blast in Moscow are unforgettable. Now a day, every body is terrorized. An alert security, twenty four hour, is the only solution left to save a country and its people.
